Q: If I want to buy a kitten, how old should it be?
A: Never buy a kitten younger than 8 weeks old. The first eight weeks of their lives need to be spent with their mother and siblings, and during this period, they are very fragile. Buying a kitten that’s between 8 and 12 weeks old is the ideal age, because they’re old enough to be on their own, yet young enough that you can teach them and enjoy the cute wonder of kittenhood.

When checking for ticks on your pet, be sure to look at the bottoms of their feet, between the paw pads, the back of the head and neck, under their ears, and behind/under their front legs, as I’ve found that ticks seem to like these areas most of all.

A: Oriental shorthairs and siamese cats are essentially the same thing. What distinguishes them as two different breeds is their color: a light colored cat with dark “points” (dark coloring on their nose, ears, feet, and tail) is a Siamese cat, while any color other than Siamese is an oriental shorthair.

Q: Should cats be let outside?
A: No. It isn’t safe for cats to be outside unattended, as people, cars, dogs, or other animals can injure/kill cats. If your cat isn’t spayed or neutered, they will make more kittens, which means more homeless cats getting euthanized at shelters. If your feline loves the great outdoors, get it a special cat pen or a cat harness.
