If you have a pet guinea pig, it’s essential that you give it plenty of Vitamin C. Like humans, guinea pigs cannot manufacture their own Vitamin C. Without Vitamin C, guinea pigs can get scurvy, which can be fatal. Many pet stores sell Vitamin C drops that can be added to your guinea pig’s water. In addition to the drops, be sure to give your guinea pig a small piece of kiwi, pepper, orange, or other vegetable or fruit that contains a lot of Vitamin C. When introducing a new food into your guinea pig’s diet, do so gradually over the course of a few days so it will be used to the food. If your guinea pig never had a particular food, suddenly giving it a large amount could give it diarrhea.
